Eating Disorders (ED) are more rampant and more severe than ever before. ED related Hospitalizations doubled for adolescent girls during the pandemic. Even post-pandemic, the situation has not improved. Anorexia Nervosa has the highest mortality rate (~ 10%) of any mental disorder. Yet, only 10% of people with eating disorders get treatment due to stigma and lack of access to treatment.
As parents, it's imperative that we understand these conditions, know how to detect them early, and take action to avoid escalation.
